Global Locals: Nubian Néné

Nubian Néné, born in Montréal, is known in her community for her waacking and house dance styles, as a well-versed dancer, an out-of-ordinary and powerful choreographer, and her ability to wear many hats, such as host, judge, performer, director, and more. She has had in the last few years the opportunity to teach, judge and perform nationally and internationally.

Nubian Néné also created a Lady in the House Co. Inspired by strong women, she is interested in creatively responding to the real experiences of racism, discrimination, economic social standing through street styles of movement, like house, hip-hop, breaking and waacking. Nubian Néné creates her unique works through a collaborative process with performers and artists, using mediums like films, photography and visual art to enhance each work.
